When you hear October most people think - Halloween, Breast Cancer Awareness, Octoberfest, etc.
But did you know that October isn't just Breast Cancer Awareness Month? According to luriechildrens.org - October is also:
- ADHD Awareness Month
- Down Syndrome Awareness Month
- Pregnancy & Infant Loss Month
- Spina Bifida Awareness Month
ADHD is becoming more widely known and diagnosed in adults who struggled with it as a kid and it went unnoticed. I, myself (Toni), struggle with ADHD. It's not "hyperactivity" (being hyper) which is what most people assume. There's so much more that goes with ADHD. It's the "hyperfixations", ADHD paralysis, brain fog, the millions of tabs open in our brains 24/7, etc. The list goes on and on.
Down Syndrome is a genetic condition where a person is born with an extra chromosome...and let me tell you, these beautiful souls are the HAPPIEST and sweetest individuals I have ever had the privilege to meet.
I've had several friends and family close to me who have suffered with miscarriages, and it's never easy.
Spina Bifida is an NTD (Neural Tube Defect) that occurs when the baby's spinal cord fails to develop or close properly in the womb. Some born with SB have learning disabilities or intellectual disabilities. This doesn't mean they can't live a good life, just might be a little different.
No matter the case, it's good to bring awareness to not only breast cancer this month, but also all of these other things people may not know of!
